'Ha! Watch your lip boy, I'm being paid far more than you could afford.'
He throws a heavy iron punch, but you dodge it easily. Diving to one side you kick his legs out from under him.
He hits the cobbles hard, the breath driven out of his lungs. Before he has chance to recover you pin his arm. His sheer size wins out. He throws you over his head, and raises his sword, but your crossbow is already squared to his throat.
'Stop!'
A girl steps out on to the gangway of one of the ships waiting in port.
Calmly she looks down at the pirate.
'I've never seen anyone better you in a brawl Captain Farrend.
If he really is a friend, perhaps it would be better to make use of him.'
Reluctantly, Farrend steps back with a growl. Only after a moment's consideration do you lower your crossbow.
'Who are you to be commanding pirates?' You call up to the girl.
Ignoring your question, she turns and disappears back into the light of the ship's cabin. Farrend follows her, glowering.
You pause, unsure whether to follow.
'I suggest you come inside sir. That shadow you saw on the roof was only a scout, but it still has an appetite.' She calls down.
The gangplank creaks under your feet, but the light from the cabin is warm and welcoming.
As you step inside, Farrend hands the girls something.
'Now tell me,' she sits down, and places the object on the table between you.
'How did you come by this pin?'
-- Do you tell her the truth?
-- Lie to them?
-- Run from the cabin?
-- Attack them again?
